Cary,

Your writing is intelligent and collected.

I plan on coming here in the future to discover bits of wisdom.

I want to share something I recently discovered with you - a new doc coming out about the secret practices of nuns and monks. I found the trailer on youtube - but here is a link to the website.

I hope this helps with your spiritual journey.

Cary,
I try everyday to live in the moment. You are lucky to have made this realization while you are still fairly young. Remember it and your life will be filled with joy.

Hi Teri,
thanks for commenting.
One lesson I definitely picked up from you and still work hard on applying every day is the ol' "just for today," refrain.
Sometimes I even break it down to, just for the next hour...LOL until I can be strong enough to make it through the entire day.
Thanks for being a wonderful friend and inspiration!

Stop and smell the roses is correct! We need to focus on what we have today, the joys and challenges. It is pretty easy to say that today I will not gamble (my vice) and that I will touch someone in a positive way. Or I may say that today I will clean my car rather than I will keep it clean forever (very long and intimidating time). For 24 hours I am strong enough to do or not do most anything. Each day I try to plan to do something that will bring a little fun to my life, play with my dog Joy, have lunch with friends, call family members. Just something that will make me feel good.

Stay focused on today and count your blessings.

What a profound statement, "As always, the things I am grateful for have not been fully realized. I accept that they will be someday, so therefore I am now grateful for it being true." To me this is the difference between "hope" and "faith." With hope, there is a belief that there is a chance that the hoped for outcome will never happen. With faith there is no question. I like this post. I’ve been sharing the spiritual tools I’ve learned on my blog. I just wrote a post on my blog called “Self Acceptance.” I’d love your feedback. Blessings, Sherry

Dear Cary,
You probably don't remember me or my sister, Mary, but we babysat most of our second cousins. We loved all of you dearly and it was very hard to lose contact w/you. It was also hard to lose contact w/our older 1st cousins. I'm so sorry that your Mom had such a difficult life and that at times, she "flipped out", but ALL of us had much the same experience with our mothers. I'm talking about those of us who had a "Frohne girl" as a mother. None of us has been unscathed and once in awhile we repeat the behavior we've learned with our children, some worse than others.
I think EVERYONE in our extended family should read two books by John Bradshaw. The books are titled, Bradshaw on the Family and Healing the Shame That Binds You. The last one is on toxic shame and how it's perpetuated in families. One point is that when parents can't--won't--don't have the ability to nurture and protect their childern, it's because they were never showed know how and then when they have kids they EXPECT US to be the parent they never had and when we don't come thru' there's hell to pay. I always knew that my Mom had issues but I never quite understood why she couldn't manage to protect us from events or people. At least reading these books helped shed some light on things and I was able to release thar burden. Hopefully, if you read these books, you'll be able to forgive your grandmother. All of the Frohne girls were warped by their home life in ways we'll never know. It's just too bad that 17 children lived with the ramifications of how they were raised and then we've passed onto our children.
Take care. We still love you guys.
                             Your cousin, Anna

Cary,
I'm in bed by 11PM and up by 7AM and walking by 8AM. I never thought that I would like this schedule but I love it. I especially love the solitude of early mornings, so I know exactly where you are coming from. It's never too late to discover new things and make changes for the better. It's what make life worth living.
